Communications Internship Position (unpaid, 10-15 hours/week, open until filled)
The Institute for Community Research, Hartford CT has an opening for a Communications intern. ICR offers a supportive, multi-ethnic and interdisciplinary work environment and excellent opportunities for learning and growth. This position is unpaid. Interns should check with their institutions regarding obtaining course credits or community service hours.
Responsibilities: The intern will work with the Communications Director and project staff to develop a broad range of communication pieces including writing copy for press releases, posters and flyers, as well as for ICR’s website and intranet. The intern will also assist with contacting media, photographing events and updating ICR’s online photo archive. This internship is ideal for a college or master’s level student pursuing a degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field with a strong interest in social justice issues, public health research, health communications, applied anthropology and urban arts.
Successful candidates should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Demonstrated writing skills and the ability to conceptualize and write
position-oriented copy.
Photography skills.
Ability to effectively prioritize and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
Ability to work independently.
Strong attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills.

Intervention Research Internship Position
(unpaid, 10-15 hours/week, open until filled)
The Institute for Community Research, Hartford CT has an opening for a Youth Marketing and Recruitment Intern for Xperience Hartford, a drug prevention program utilizing live entertainment shows to deliver drug prevention messages to youth ages 15-20. ICR offers a supportive, multi-ethnic and interdisciplinary work environment and excellent opportunities for learning and growth. This position is unpaid. Interns should check with their institutions regarding obtaining course credits or community service hours. Responsibilities: The intern will help document program activities with youth artists and production crew through ethnographic observation one-two days per week. The intern will also assist in the administration of surveys and in youth membership recruitment efforts. Additional responsibilities include survey data entry, and assisting at two live community-wide Xperience shows. This internship is ideal for a college or master’s level student with a strong interest in youth drug prevention, social science or public health research, health communications, social marketing, applied anthropology and urban arts.
